Horse Camps

Camp Skill Level Descriptions

 

Beginner:

A beginning level horse camper is a child who may or may not have ridden a horse before. Campers are not expected to have horse experience. Beginner level campers will be taught basic horsemanship skills on the ground and while mounted. By the end of the week, they will have learned proper grooming and tacking techniques as well as basic control of the horse while mounted to include; stopping, starting, and turning.

Intermediate:

An intermediate level horse camper is expected to have ridden and handled horses before. They should have solid skills in starting, stopping, and turning at the walk, and have been introduced to the trot. Campers are expected to have experience grooming, tacking and handling horses while mounted or dismounted.

Advanced:

Advanced level campers have ridden and handled horses many times. They should have solid skills in starting, stopping, and turning at the walk and trot and been introduced to the canter.
