Safety

Safety is always our first priority at camp. Whether your child is in the pool, the ropes course, a cabin or the dining hall, you can rest assured that your child is safe and well cared for while they are at camp.

FIRST AID TREATMENT

All Impact 2818 program staff are CPR and First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross.  Any treatment of campers is done in accordance with our First Aid Protocol & Procedure book.

  • All medication must be brought in its original labeled container and given to the Camp Medic at Check-In on the first day of camp.
  • All camper medication is stored and administered by the Camp Medic.  Inhalers, bee-sting kits and EpiPen's are exceptions and are carried by the camper’s counselor (by them, if Sr. High) and administered as needed.
  • Camp Adventure, Camp Lakewood and Pine Creek Camp distribute first aid supply bags to each counselor to keep with him/her at ALL times throughout the week.  This bag contains supplies for treating minor injuries.
  • At Epworth Forest, all supplies are stored and administered by the Camp Medic.  Campers should report to the First Aid Station to take medication or receive medical treatment.

Adventure Course Safety

All Impact 2818 sites offer adventure activities designed to challenge your child and develop confidence and self-esteem.  Whether your child experiences a teams course, high ropes course, ziplines, or Goliath the Giant Swing, you can be sure that safety is our number one priority.

Our adventure elements are designed, built, and operated with your child’s safety in mind.  We conduct annual inspections to ensure that they are and will remain operational for the entire season.  In addition, our staff receives training on all the technical aspects they need to know to safely operate the activities.   This means that among other things, our staff knows how to provide proper spotting, coaching, and guidance for low elements, and when and how to use harnesses and other safety devices required for high elements.  Above all, our staff is trained to be alert and attentive to the safety and needs of each individual so they can have an incredible experience.

Horse Safety

Impact 2818 strives to meet excellence in safety in our horse program. We look to CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) for nationally recognized standards and put these into practice in our horse program.  Our new, modern facility, which includes an indoor riding arena, is an environment of cleanliness and safety.  We keep low ratios in our program to provide optimal supervision during horse camp. Our staff helps campers to learn how to keep themselves and their assigned horse safe during all activities.  This includes proper headgear, riding attire and tack as well as actions and behavior in the barn, on the trails and around the horses. Campers are evaluated on the first day of camp and matched with a horse that is comparable to their skill level.  And our horses are a year round herd, which helps to give consistency to our horse program.

Volunteers & Counselor to Camper Ratios

Impact 2818 is local church centered. Our camping ministry utilizes volunteers in many roles in our programs. These volunteers come from local churches and provide leadership during the week.  Our volunteer leadership provides for the spiritual development of our campers, training and support for counselors, and worship times at camp.

The welfare of our campers and guests is our utmost priority.  Every individual, with the exception of campers, is run through the National Sex Offender Public Registry.

Campers are under the supervision of at least two counselors/staff at all times.  Group sizes are limited to allow for age appropriate care and supervision.

  • Primary (grades K-2) – 2:10 (2 counselors for a group of 10 campers)

  • Early Elementary (grades 3-4) – 2:12

  • Elementary (grades 5-6) – 2:14

  • Jr. High (grades 6-8) – 2:16

  • Sr. High (grades 9-13) -- 2:18

Visitors

The welfare of our campers and guests is our utmost priority.  Therefore, every individual on-site, with the exception of campers, is run through the National Sex Offender Public Registry.

In addition, Impact 2818 discourages visitors with the exception of Pastors, Youth Pastors, and Children’s Pastors.  Parents & Guardians are discouraged from visiting and phoning campers during their week of camp.  Personal contacts from parents can have negative effects regarding homesickness and community building times for both your camper and the other campers in their group.  Remember, if there is a problem with your child, we will contact you.

All other visitors are not allowed at camp for any reason.
